Drip Edge
The most overlooked detail in roofing. Proper metal drip edge installation protects your fascia, soffit, and foundation from water intrusion for the entire life of your roof.
The Detail Most Roofers Skip
Drip edge is a metal flashing installed along the eaves and rakes of your roof. Its job is to direct water away from the fascia board and into the gutter, preventing water from running back under the shingles and rotting the wood beneath.
Many roofing contractors skip drip edge or install it improperly to save time and money. This is a false economy: without proper drip edge, water infiltrates behind the fascia, rots the wood, and eventually causes structural damage that costs far more to repair than the drip edge would have.
Three Pines includes proper metal drip edge on every roof replacement we do. It is not optional. It is not an upsell. It is part of doing the job right.
Colorado building code requires drip edge on all new roofing installations. If a contractor quotes you a roof without drip edge, they are either planning to cut corners or they don’t know what they’re doing.
What Drip Edge Does
- ✓ Directs water from roof edge into gutters
- ✓ Prevents water from running behind fascia boards
- ✓ Protects roof deck edge from moisture
- ✓ Provides clean finished edge to shingle installation
- ✓ Prevents wind uplift at roof edges
- ✓ Required by Colorado building code
Our Drip Edge Standard
We install Type C (L-shaped) or Type D (T-shaped) galvanized or aluminum drip edge on all rakes and eaves. Eave drip edge is installed under the underlayment. Rake drip edge is installed over the underlayment. This sequencing is critical for proper water management.
Does My Existing Roof Have Drip Edge?
Many Denver homes built before 2010 were roofed without proper drip edge, or with drip edge that has since corroded or failed. If your gutters are pulling away from the fascia, if you see rotting wood at the roof edge, or if water is running down your siding after rain, missing or failed drip edge may be the cause.
During our free inspection, we check your drip edge condition as part of the standard assessment. If you’re not planning a full replacement but need drip edge repair or installation, we can do that as a standalone service.
Every Three Pines Roof Includes Drip Edge
We don’t charge extra for drip edge. We don’t make it optional. It’s part of every roof replacement we do because it’s part of doing the job right. That’s the Three Pines standard.
